SkyFields (Introverted Intuition)

With this series, I present interactions between colors using my own de-constructed photographs. The title of the series comes from the original subject of all of the photographs - the sky and in most cases, the horizon. The title also speaks to the 1960s Color Field movement, a source of great inspiration for me.

I make these images utilizing a cognitive process entitled Introverted Intuition. This process focuses on stripping away surface details to find the essence of a thing; the goal is deeper understanding of the parts and ultimately the whole. Here, I deconstruct the vast amount of visual information presented within a source photograph. I distill the photograph into its most elemental parts, represented by hard edge fields of color. The result is a concentrated, distilled, picture of the sky and horizon.
